The weather here in Oxford is starting to call for fewer layers, I'm not even hiding multiple coats and/or jumpers behind the camera today either. I can safely say I am looking forward to updating my wardrobe after a thorough clear out recently, so I can begin to create new combinations ready for the warmer weather. As the days get longer I become more inclined to change out of my pyjamas and out of bed to spend my days in beautiful sunshine, wearing my favourite clothes with people that make me happy.
This is a combination I have been considering for a while with different dresses. I chose this one not only because I still cannot seen to stop wearing Black 'n' White but because I enjoy the way the necklines pair up almost perfectly and the length of the dress allowed my to slip into these tights. If you have read my blog over the last couple of years then you will know I have an infatuation with Paris and these skyline tights have been a sort of staple in my drawers. I might even wear them when I head out to the city again later this year...

If this isn't on almost every fashion enthusiasts bookshelf in the country yet, we are doing something wrong! I admit it not a novel in anyway shape or from, but it has taught me a thing or to about looking effortless:
"Looking effortless takes a lot of effort"
And heartbreak and most importantly how to get dressed in the morning when you aren't Little Miss Super Organised, I have my whole weeks worth of outfits hung up ready to go in my wardrobe kinda gal.

I also discovered that it is okay to take your summer clothing ideas from books, and how to wear eyeliner from rock bands in the 60's, 70's and 80's, but under no circumstances will I ever dress like I am from the 80's or 90's blugh please, I won't even wear a scrunchie again!
I wish I could say more on this darling little book, but I feel I might give away too much, or become boring so I will stop here and say, that you can read this in 40 minutes, but you will keep coming back to it, I know I will!

My English teacher set this on a reading list for books that will make you a better person over the summer holidays last year, I only got around to reading it in December because my sister wanted me to read it before the film came out and I finished it on Tuesday. It is by far one of the most enchanting and hopeful books I have every read about WWII, but maybe that is due to it being more about Liesel (The Book Thief) than the war. When is came to the end of the book I can safely say I cried about 5 times, not just a couple of tears but full 5 minute sessions of sobbing over fictional characters that I only met 2 days before in the reading process.
"It's a small story about:
a girl
+
an accordionist
+
some fanatical Germans
+
a Jewish fist fighter
+
and quite a lot of thievery"
I can safely say some of my favourite bits in the book were the illustrations that were drawn by one of the characters Max, they are simple but oh so beautiful. With the story being narrated by death it prevented the situation from being morbid as you hear his perspective, and the fact that every soul he collects has a colour, based on the colour of the sky at the time of death. He also gives an honest but truthful note on humans:
"I am haunted by humans"
I like to think that something like this happened during the war as it would have made a place like Himmel Street near Munich a much better place to be than previously though. I hope you read this little gem of a book, and I appologise for being so awful at book reviews.
I read while listening to:
I can't be the only one who has a soundtrack to every book they read?

So I am going through the post sales, Lets Wear All The New Things stage, hence the number one fashion blogger item the Zara skort (Am I a REAL fashion blogger now?). I bought mine in white because I don't own enough white things and it is a base colour to build outfits with, oh and the only other colour available was orange and well, I wouldn't even know how to wear such a item.
I have somehow managed to make myself look like a life size cardboard cut-out.. I like it.
Trying to remember french vocab on Memrise... I do love having January mocks.
Guys there was a butterfly in my room, and I just got so excited at one point it was sat on my Buddhist prayer flags and it was the most beautiful thing. I guess you could say I like butterflies.
My magazine collection 2013 well part of it..
Paris skyline tights and chipped nails.

P.S. Have you been sales shopping yet?

Wondering the streets of Paris!

We found so many of these street stalls on the banks of the Seine, between, the Musée d'Orsay and Notre-dam, I didn't buy anything, but they made for some cute photos.

My sister and I, outside Notre-dam, which I think looks worse now there are viewing steps...
What I wore:
T-shirt - Hollister
Skirt - New look
Bag - Local county show
Shoes - Converse All Stars

The musings of a slightly hung-over teenager, who's emotions consist of nothingness and an overwhelming fuzzy feeling that started about 2 hours ago and is keeping her awake. This teenager would also happen to be me.
"Sleep falls,
Blanketing the world.
Before the blackness descends,
And subconscious dreams light the way.
The twisting Labyrinth.
Dawn for an exit,
Not always found."

The summer holidays have been a great chance to catch up on all the sewing projects I couldn't find time for during college and the other shorter breaks. I made this pinafore dress with the hope that it can be worn in any season, plus or minus a few layers of clothing depending on the heat. I used a black cotton with small white stars and dots on it, to avoid plain black, which would have been too close to my old school uniform for anyone's liking. I encountered one major problem, being the buttonholes and buttons my sewing machine doesn't sew these for you, so they were hand sewn and not brilliantly either. But overall I was happy with design and make of this piece, as it is the first item I have made using a pattern I made myself.
I hope to do a How To Wear series soon, so this will feature then, but for now I am just wearing is with a plain black bustier to show off the item.

As much as I had hoped to make this a DIY post, take picture while sewing is time consuming, so therefore I didn't do that... However I might make one in the near future as I am making another one for a friend. I spent approximately 5 hours on it, 5 hours I should have probably been studying but lets be honest here dressmaking/sewing is far more fun than making notes from textbooks! I am in Paris for the next 5 days so there will be a few queued posts if technology does as I wish it to.
See you on the other side possibly with a bit more french speaking ability we will see...

Now this post and the last will not count towards my CAS hours, but I thought I ought to share my experiences of one of the fashion capitals! I feel I should explain this is take 1 because I am going back in the summer avec ma famille!
So out of sheer laziness and time related issues this post will mostly be pics with the occasional caption!
The Louvre! I must admit there are more impressive art galleries.

Casually running into Paris Fashion Week and taking some shot of people which unfortunately I didn't get a chance to speak to...

Now for the obligatory Eiffel Tower pictures...

That is all!
